This person talks about the serenity of mathematics. My favorite point, and a question that I've personally asked myself, is, "how is this going to aid me in life?". I know I've asked this question many times myself because I want to study law. Law doesn't necessarily incorporate much math, but when my attorney mentor approached talked to me about it, he explained that math isn't necessarily about the math, it's about the ability to learn. One point that the author makes in the text was the development of character through mathematics.
This paper did get me thinking in some ways that I think are especially helpful. Instead of asking how the math is going to help me, I can think of how the process of learning is going to help me. The process of learning math, for me at least, is very challenging, and if I manage to learn it, it will more than likely stay. I think that if I can apply the method that I use to learning math to other things, I can learn anything with the upmost of precision, which is something that I think can be unimaginably important to real life applications. On top of the learning ability, the math itself is useful. You can't live life without knowing math, that just doesn't work.
I pretty much agree with the whole thing because it really touched home on the learning aspect more over the math aspect, which is something that I whole heartedly believe.
I definitely anticipate this method being a part of what I do this semester because it is an invaluable way of learning.
